守株待兔 (shǒu zhū dài tù)
A farmer was ploughing the fields one day when he saw a hare running wildly. The hare ran into a tree, broke its neck, and died. The farmer happily reaped without sowing and took the hare home for dinner. Since then, he refused to pick up his hoe again. Instead, he sat beneath the tree and waited patiently for a second hare to come. But a second hare never came his way. Rather, he became the laughing-stuck of the whole state.
